Crushed Consumption

This started out as a project for my 3-Dimensional art class that dealt with the subject of balance and inbalance. Originally it was only about 2ft tall and didn't have the trash can mobile but over the course of two months (thanks to the prodding of my professor XD), it morphed into this nearly 7ft monstrosity
The mobile would spin on its own so depending on where it spun and where someone stood, the piece would either be in balance (like the picture in the top left corner) or out of balance (largest picture). Something like...700 cans I guessing went into it. Maybe even more. I never did keep track but it was about a week's worth of raiding the recycling bins around campus. XD
And it was a LOT of cans to crush, it fell apart at least four times, and I cut myself multiple times on the cans and burned my fingers on hot glue XD
But in the end I think it was worth it. It won an award and was featured in two galleries and a blog article. Then it went right back into the recycling bin
